World War II
Memories and Biography
(Taken from a letter to Will Lundy)
March 22, 1983
What a coincidence! I am in the process of reading a book about the Second World War air battles and just this past Sunday, I was talking to my wife about some experiences and asked if she remembered by squadron number. Without going to old records in the attic, we thought I was with the 44th Bomb Group - 68th Squadron. The following day, Monday, your letter was received and I was very pleased to learn that Lopez and Bill Kelly remembered my name.
For many years, Lester Hess, our tail gunner, Bill Kelly, the pilot and I have been corresponding at Christmas time and have been keeping each other informed of family activities.
I have often wondered about some other members of the crew and I was very happy to receive your note. I don't know what Oliver Lopez has in mind by asking you to locate other members of his crew, but I sure would like to be filled in about everyone.
To quickly answer your request, the following are two addresses I have for Bill and Les:
William "Bill" Kelly, Apt. 304, 101 Lake Hinsdale, Drive Clarendon Hills, Illinois 60514
Lester Hess, 347 East Front Street
Lititz, PA 17543
I will be anxiously waiting to hear more information.
