World War II
Memories and Biography
(Taken from a letter to Will Lundy)
Dear Mr. Lundy:
I am answering your inquiry because, unfortunately, Fred Kobus is no longer with us. He passed away due to chronic lymphatic leukemia on August 21, 1987.
He would have certainly been interested in becoming a part of your organization. Although he did not discuss the wartime with me very much (I was a teenager during the war), I know he often talked of his wartime experiences with other veterans, especially the Air Force. I have enclosed a copy of his discharge and also a copy of a Christmas card and patch that was in his belongings. Also a picture (need not be returned) that you look at and perhaps recognize as he was in the 67th bomb Squadron also. He was a tail gunner.
I am sorry I am unable to supply as much information as you would like to have, but I'm sure that he was indeed the Fred Kobus you are searching for.
Please let me know if you have a memorial for your fallen comrades, not in battle, but a different kind of battle.
